A girl sneaked out of her room, her rubber-soled army boots making no sound on the carpet as she quietly eased her way down the tiled hall, not giving a single glance at the numberless doors that were arranged in orderly rows. Her waist-length hair swished around her as she suddenly stopped in front of a mundane, obscure steel door. She swiftly rapped her knuckles on the burnished metal, then glanced around to see if anyone detected her presence.
The door opened to reveal a lad, tall for his age, with a head of messy brown hair. His red-tinted brown eyes scanned the hallway, as cautious as his visitor.
"It's okay." whispered the little girl, flicking stray black strands from her bright emerald green eyes, "I checked."
He nodded, and then followed her as they traversed a plotted route. Alert to the quietest whisper, they exited the building and stole away into the night.

CHAPTER 1
A slim boy with a red-banded black fedora entered a beautifully decorated room. The lace curtains fluttered gently as he walked over to a girl with similar features as him.
"Mornin' sis." he said cheerfully in his native Italian tongue, his clear blue eyes twinkling. "What are you doing?"
His twin sister looked up from her documents to meet her younger brother's gaze, the breeze sweeping her dark blonde-brown hair around her face. "I'm tired Agosto. I've been up all night."
He made a face. "I told you not to call me that. It's Akito."
She ignored it, turning back to her papers. "Despite the fact you changed your name legally, doesn't mean that I can't call you by your original name." She lifted her face, letting the gentle wind caress her face, refreshing her. "It's beautiful day..." she said.
Akito nodded, sitting on a nearby hand-carved, gilded chair. "It feels like something's gonna happen." He took a look at the newspaper that sat on top of the stack of official papers covering the polished oak table. Bored, he flipped through it.
"Hey, look here- Kylianna Michaella Vandusli has been awarded the... 'Rolf Schock Prize in Logic and Philosophy'? What did you do this time?"
She peered at the newspaper. "It also mentions you here-"
"Yeah, in the passing-" grumbled Akito
"Older fourteen-year old twin sister of Akito James Vandusli-"
"I probably won an award for causing the most amount of distress with my practical jokes."
Kylianna gave him a disapproving look. He somehow found it funny and laughed in her face.
Being distracted, he missed a small section of the newspaper about a thirteen-year old, undersized girl and her tall fifteen-year old adopted brother running away from an orphanage.
